Gillingham manager Martin Allen will have another look at French defender Bernard Onanga Itoua after he played against Ebbslfeet on Saturday.

The 23 year old former Auxerre defender played the full ninety minutes for Gillingham on Saturday as they beat Ebbsfleet United 3-2 at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

Lining up alongside youngster Callum Davies in defence, Bernard as we was listed on the teamsheet, put in a solid performance, encouraging Gills manager Martin Allen to have another look:

“He did alright. He is strong and quick.”

“He came in and trained with us on Friday. He speaks hardly any English and he didn’t listen to me that’s for sure! We will have to have a chat about him and what he can do.”

Itoua was recommended to Allen by an agent and after a spot of research on the internet, the Gillingham manager was persuaded to have a look at the defender who made 2 Auxerre appearances in 2010/2011.

The French defender made 21 appearances for Litex Lovech of Bulgaria last year and made two appearances in the Europa league against Dynamo Kiev for Litex as the Bulgarian side lost 3-1 on aggregate.

Itoua could be handed another chance to impress as Gillingham take on Dover Athletic at The Crabble on Tuesday night.
